The sculpture will be located at the Southern entrance to Preston Park, in the section just before the rose garden. There are two dropped kerbs with tactile paving available in the lead up to the space.

The surface that the sculpture will be on is a relatively smooth surface of paved brick, with plenty of space around the sculpture for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre around and see the whole sculpture. This spot can be accessed just off of Preston Road.

By Bus – The nearest routes that stop by this sculpture will be the 5, 5A, 17, 52, 270, 271 and 272 at the ‘Springfield Road’ stop. You can also use the ‘Standford Avenue’ stop.

By Train – If you’re arriving via train, the nearest train station is Preston Park. There is a step-free accessible route towards the sculpture but be mindful of steep hills and the occasional rough surface. This is around a 20-minute journey across a 1.5km distance:

• Turn right out of the station onto Clermont Terrace, then left onto Cumberland Road.
• Turn right onto Preston Road.
• From here, there is a pedestrian crossing right outside Preston Rock Gardens, which will allow you to access the pedestrian path and head down towards the rose gardens/South entrance.

Trains: Local and national trains are available from Preston Park station. All platforms and trains are accessible with ramps and extra support available at request. There are also accessible ticket barriers.

Bikes: The nearest Beryl Bay will be directly opposite the sculpture, a few yards away, via the zebra crossing.

There are rails also directly opposite the sculpture where you’ll be able to lock up your personal bike.

Noise Levels – 5/10.

Preston Park is a green space that is well known for its calm atmosphere. However, it is a large space, with an on-site café and sports courts, so it won’t be completely void of activity. Please also note that it is surrounded by busy roads, so be aware of sudden sirens and horns.

The nearest parking spaces will be the park’s dedicated North (via Preston Drove) or South (junction of Preston Road and Preston Park Avenue) car parks.

• They are open every day 9am to 8pm. The maximum stay is 6 hours, with no return within 4 hours.
• From £1.70 for one hour, up to £8.40 for six hours.

There are also Blue Badge spaces available in these car parks. Alternatively, you can use a Blue Badge on single or double yellow lines for up to three hours as long as no loading restrictions are in force. You can also pay for free and for an unlimited time in Pay and Display bays.

The nearest public toilets will be in Preston Park itself, by the Rotunda Café. These include male, female, disabled access, and a designated changing place. These facilities are open from 10am -6pm. These are a 600-metre distance away and around an 8-minute journey.

The changing place requires a RADAR key for access and includes adult sized wall mounted bench which is height adjustable, ceiling hoist and loop hoist, peninsular toilet, height adjustable washbasin, emergency alarm, privacy screen, accessible shower, colostomy shelf.

This BookBench is painted with soft pastels in a cartoon, graphic style. It shows a landscape scene of the South Downs with the I360 in the background and a glimpse of the sea. The sky is a pale pink with clouds scudding over it, with rolling hills dotted with sheep beneath it. Two people on a bench can be seen in the distance while two more walk across the bottom of the bench with a dog. The back of the bench shows a similar scene with the same dog-walkers, this time as they walk along Brighton beach.
