The Story Trail Artists

Make your art part of our story – apply now to be a Story Trail Artist.

Amaze, your local charity supporting families with disabled children, has partnered with Wild in Art to bring you The Story Trail—a free, fun and family-friendly adventure.

Between September and November 2026, you can uncover a city-wide gallery of more than 30 BookBenches. Each one is an open book, designed by a talented artist and waiting to be discovered. The story continues with a heartwarming collection of smaller BookBenches, lovingly decorated by local schools and community groups, adding their own chapters to our city’s tale.

Submissions for The Story Trail are now closed.

How it works

New and established artists were invited to submit designs that will transform the blank BookBench sculptures. Artists who responded to our open call will hear by the end of March 2026.

The Story Trail team and young people with SEND will review and shortlist designs.

Design ideas will be presented to sponsors, who will each select their favourite

Successful The Story Trail artists will be commissioned to apply their designs (ranging from traditional to new media, fine art and graffiti) to the sculptures.

Once all BookBenches are created, they will appear across Brighton & Hove in well-known visitor areas to create a free eight-week art trail in autumn 2026.
