The sculpture is located directly in front of Brighton Palace Pier. As the pier is right on the seafront, you can access it from several directions, either via Old Steine, from Hove (Kings Road), or along Madeira Drive.

There are numerous nearby bus stops as well as a continuous cycle lane along the seafront. Please be aware that many e-bikes use these lanes and to be cautious when crossing them.

There is an accessible crossing with dropped kerbs directly opposite the pier.

By Bus– The nearest routes that stop at this sculpture will be the City Sightseeing at the ‘Brighton Palace Pier’ stop. Alternatively, you can get the 1, 1X, 2, 5, 5A, 5B, 6, 7, 12, 12X, 13X, 14, 20, 21, 22, 24, 25, 26, 27, 27C, 37, 37B, 46, 47, 48, 49, 52, 60 and 77 from ‘North Street’ or Old Steine’ stops, which are a short distance from the sculpture.

By Train – If you’re arriving via train, the nearest station will be Brighton. There is a step-free, accessible route via the Queens Road exit, around a 20-minute journey across a 1.5km distance:

• Follow Queen’s Road down to Kings Road.
• From here, turn left and use the accessible crossings to get to the pier.
• Please note that Queens Road is on a slope downhill.

Likewise, you can head straight down Trafalgar Street (be mindful of a downward slope here with the occasional rough surface), and down Gloucester Place towards Old Steine. From here you can cross at the lights towards the pier.

This route offers a much wider pavement, with only Trafalgar Street being a little bit tight, although there is more of an incline towards the station. This route is around a 1.6km distance, roughly around a 22-minute journey.

Trains: Local and national trains are available from Brighton station. All platforms and trains are accessible with ramps and extra support available at request. There are also accessible ticket barriers.

Bikes: The nearest Beryl Bay will be along Madeira Drive with further stations down Kings Road.

There are numerous Sheffield racks directly opposite the pier with more scattered along the seafront for you to lock up your own bike.

Noise Levels- 7/10.

As the sculpture will be based in front of the pier, expect crowds to be present. The pier is often a busy place, with food stalls surrounding the pier entrance as well as pedestrians and cyclists travelling past. Please be aware of the traffic noise and the occasional siren as the sculpture is located next to a few busy roads.

The surface that the sculpture will be on will be paved brick and relatively smooth for a wheelchair user to travel on. There will be adequate room surrounding the sculpture to manoeuvre around the entire thing.

The nearest parking will be Madeira Drive Parking. 450-metre distance, around a 6-minute journey.

There are further Blue Badge bays on Brills Lane, around 190 metres away. It can be accessed by turning left out of the pier entrance, crossing the road at Grand Junction Road, and turning right by Grosvenor Casinos. Alternatively, you can use a Blue Badge on single or double yellow lines for up to three hours as long as no loading restrictions are in force. You can also pay for free and for an unlimited time in Pay and Display bays.

There are general toilets as well as disabled access toilets, including a changing place available in The Colonnade. You can find these amongst a row of small cafes and shops.

The changing place will be open from 9am until 6pm and includes an adult sized free-standing bench which is height adjustable, ceiling hoist, peninsular toilet and height adjustable washbasin.

This BookBench sculpture has two classic seaside deckchairs at the front, one stripy red and one stripy blue, so that it looks you are really sat on them. The chairs are on a pebbly beach with a splash of sea at the foot of the bench. Behind these two chairs are a large rainbow spreading from one to the other, surrounded by iconic Brighton images such as the Pavilion, the I360, the Upside-Down House, and the Duke of York’s picture house stripy legs. On the back of the bench are even more images that can be seen around Brighton and Hove. Adding to the previous images are the lower promenade shops, the Peace Statue, roller-skates, seagulls, and shops from The Laines. Another large rainbow stretches above these, with ‘Brighton’ in colourful letters above the rainbow.
