The sculpture is located along Hove promenade, outside The Lawns Café. It can be accessed via the seafront and lower prom, with a step-free accessible route along the seafront from Brighton to Hove.

If you’re arriving from inland Hove, you can use the accessible crossing at the bottom of First Avenue to get down to the prom. Likewise, there are numerous accessible crossings along this road. Please be mindful of cyclists when crossing the cycle lanes.

By Bus – The nearest routes that stop by this sculpture will be the 1, 1X, 5, 5, 5A, 5B, 6, 46, 49, 700 and City Sightseeing at the ‘Palmeira Square’ stop. Please note there is a short distance from the stop to the sculpture.

By Train – If you’re arriving via train, the nearest station will be Hove. There is a step-free accessible route via Denmark Villas. This is a 1.7km distance and around a 24-minute journey:

• Use Cromwell Road from Denmark Villas. (there is a dropped kerb crossing by the mini roundabout).
• Head down The Drive (be mindful of a slight downwards slope towards the sea).
• Continue onto The Avenue, where you can turn right onto Kingsway.
• From here you can continue heading right, where you can cross at the bottom of St John’s Road and head towards the promenade.

Trains: Local and national trains are available from Hove station. All platforms and trains are accessible with ramps and extra support available at request. There are also accessible ticket barriers.

Bikes: The nearest Beryl Bay will be on Hove Lawns, a few yards away from The Lawns Café.

There are numerous Sheffield racks along the seafront, including rails, for you to lock up your personal bike.

Hove Lawns tends to be a quieter area of Brighton and Hove, so don’t expect large crowds or an overly busy space. Please note that if the weather is warm, it may be slightly busier. There are numerous bars, cafes, and restaurants nearby for refreshments, and there are quieter spaces on the lawns themselves or by the sea.

  • Some specific disabled bays, but all bays are widened to accept wheelchair access.
  • From £1.60 for an hour, up to £11 for 12 hours.

There are Blue Badge on-street bays directly outside Hove Lawns. Alternatively, you can use a Blue Badge on single or double yellow lines for up to three hours as long as no loading restrictions are in force.

There are public toilets with male, female, and disabled access a short 1-2 minute journey West of the sculpture.

The nearest Changing Place will be in the Shelter Hall. It is open from 9am until 6pm and includes a height adjustable wall mounted bench with an alarm, privacy screen, shower, colostomy shelf, ceiling hoist and loop hoist, and a height adjustable wash basin. This is a 1.5km distance from the sculpture, and around a 20-minute journey.

This BookBench is painted in a 2D graphic style, and shows a leafy, bamboo scene with owl-like creatures peeking out with bright yellow eyes. It is painted largely in shades of blues and greens with the pages painted a strong burgundy.
