The sculpture will be located by the Royal Sussex Regiment Memorial in Old Steine. There are accessible paths leading towards where the sculpture is situated, with concrete pathways that are smooth and wide for wheelchair and pedestrian users alike.

By Bus – The nearest routes that will stop at this sculpture will be the5, 5A, 5B, 17, 24, 25, 26, 28, 29, 29A, 46, 48, 49, 52, 78, 270, 271, 272, 273 and CSS at the ‘Royal Pavilion R1’ stop. Alternatively, you can use the 1, 1X, 2, 5, 5A, 5B, 7, 12, 12X, 13X, 14, 17, 20, 21, 22, 24, 25, 26, 27, 46, 48, 49, 79 and 700 at the ‘Old Steine’ stop.

By Train – If you’re arriving via train, the nearest station will be Brighton. There is a step-free accessible route via Trafalgar Street (please note there is a downhill slope towards St Peter’s Church). This is around a 1.5km distance and around a 22-minute journey:

• Follow Trafalgar Street all the way down to turn right onto St George’s Place.
• From here follow the street until you get to the corner of Church Street and Marlborough Place, where there is an accessible crossing.
• This will allow you to carry on travelling South until you get to the Old Steine gardens and the memorial.

Bikes: The nearest Beryl Bay will be by Pavilion Buildings, stationed by Al Duomo. This is around 230 metres from the sculpture.

There are numerous Sheffield racks outside the Subway on Old Steine for you to lock up your personal bike.

Noise Levels – 6-7/10.

Old Steine can be quite a busy place as it is surrounded by main roads. Please be aware of nearby traffic noise, including sudden sirens and horns. There may also be a number of cyclists crossing the paths of Old Steine gardens by the memorial. There are accessible, concrete paths across Old Steine gardens

There are numerous cafes, bars and restaurants nearby.

The Lanes Car Park. Around 700 metres distance, around an 11-minute journey.

• • There is a step-free, accessible route via King’s Road:
    • Use King’s Road to get to the accessible crossing opposite the Palace Pier.
    • From here you can cross towards Old Steine gardens, where the sculpture will be further up past St James Street.
  • Black Lion Street, accessible by wheelchair when using the ramp from the lower promenade.
  • Public lifts are currently out of order (18/06/2026), so please use ground floor for step free access.

RCP Parking North Road. 1km distance away, around a 14-minute journey.

• • There is a step-free, accessible route via North Road (please be mindful of a slight downward slope here):
    • Turn right at the end of North Road onto Marlborough Place.
    • Follow it down to the accessible crossing on the corner of Church Street and Marlborough Place. 
    • Carry on South towards Old Steine where the sculpture will be.

There are Blue Badge designated bays a few yards North-East of the sculpture on Princes Street. Alternatively, you can use a Blue Badge on single or double yellow lines for up to three hours as long as no loading restrictions are in force. You can also pay for free and for an unlimited time in Pay and Display bays.

There are public toilets at the entrance to the Pavilion Gardens by Princes Place. These are male, female, and disabled toilets open to the public from 10am until 6pm. There is a step-free, accessible route via North Street, and is a 300-metre distance away, around a 4-minute journey.

The nearest changing place will be at Dalton’s Bastion. Features a height-adjustable adult changing bench, ceiling track hoist, centrally placed toilet, and a height-adjustable washbasin. Requires a RADAR key. Generally open daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Please note that if you are approaching via Madeira Drive, the toilets are accessed by a slope. This is around a 600-metre distance from the sculpture, and around a 10-minute journey.

This BookBench is a colourful line drawing in the style of stained glass of a koi pond. There are three large fish on the front of the bench swimming amongst lily pads and flowers. On the back of the bench there is a water scape with a large orange sun behind a pink blossom tree and a flying stork. These are framed by green mountains. The pages are painted gold.
