This sculpture is located on the lower promenade, about a yard to the left of the carousel when facing towards the sea. There is a ramp leading down to the lower promenade to the left of the sculpture. Please note that this is quite a steep incline. This ramp is opposite the Queen’s Hotel. The path along the beach on this lower promenade is relatively flat and is wheelchair/buggy appropriate.

The sculpture will be set slightly apart on a raised part of the promenade, so also expect a slight step leading up to it. If you are in a wheelchair, please access this platform via the small wooden ramp on the further end (on the left by the bins as you come down the large ramp onto the lower promenade).

By Bus – The nearest routes that will stop at this sculpture will be the 7, 12, 14, 27, 27C, 47, 52 and 77 at the ‘North Road’ (South Bound) stop.

By Train – If you’re arriving via train, the nearest station will be Brighton. There is a step-free accessible route that is around a 1.3km distance and around a 17-minute journey:

• Via Queens Road (please note that this is a notable downward slope towards the sea), follow it straight down to the promenade.
• As you get to Kings Road, turn left, and head down towards East Street.
• There is a crossing opposite East Street taking you to just outside the ramp that leads down to the lower promenade.

Trains: Local and national trains are available from Brighton station. All platforms and trains are accessible with ramps and extra support available at request. There are also accessible ticket barriers.

Bikes: The nearest Beryl Bays will be by Brighton Town Hall, as well as on King’s Road outside the Odeon.

There are numerous Sheffield racks along the seafront for you to lock up your personal bike. There are also available spots on East Street and the corner of Ship Street.

Noise Level – 6/7-10.

Brighton seafront can get quite busy, especially on weekends and bank holidays. At these times, expect a crowded space around the sculpture, with noise from the carousel nearby, crowds of people, music from nearby bars, and traffic noise, particularly sirens along King’s Road. Please also note that the small stalls and shops along the seafront under the arches may be open with stock outside. This will also draw crowds in.

The Lanes Car Park. 260-metre distance, around a 4-minute journey.

• • There is a step-free, accessible route via Black Lion Street (please note this street is on a downwards hill towards the sea). Using the accessible crossing at the end of this street, use the ramp leading down to the lower promenade off Kings Road.

Brighton Centre Russell Road Car Park. 700-metre distance, around a 10-minute journey.

• • There is a step-free, accessible route via Russell Road, turning right onto West Street to use the accessible crossing onto Kings Road which will take you to the accessible ramp if you carry on right.

Churchill Square Red Car Park. 650-metre distance, around a 9-minute journey.

• • There is a step-free, accessible route via West Street if you exit via Regency Road (please note some uneven surfaces and slopes here). Use the accessible crossing onto Kings Road which will take you to the accessible ramp.
  • Disabled parking bays on every level of this car park.
  • From £6.50 for 2 hours to £32 for 24 hours.

The nearest Blue Badge on-street parking will be along Madeira Drive, around 1km distance from the sculpture. Alternatively, you can use a Blue Badge on single or double yellow lines for up to three hours as long as no loading restrictions are in force. You can also pay for free and for an unlimited time in Pay and Display bays.

General toilets can be found by the zip wire, by the East of the pier. The men’s toilets are located under the slope, while the women’s toilets are located under the steps. There also disabled facilities available, all open 9am until 6pm. Brighton Pier also offers on site accessible and general toilet facilities.

One of the nearest accessible changing place toilets will be in the Shelter Hall. It is 350-metres away and is a 5-minute journey East of the sculpture along the lower promenade. It is open from 9am until 6pm and includes a height adjustable wall mounted bench with an alarm, privacy screen, shower, colostomy shelf, ceiling hoist and loop hoist, and a height adjustable wash basin.

The front of this BookBench has a soft pink background, blending into pale blues and yellows near the top. Wavy lines of varying pastel colours paint the bottom half of the bench, with the West Pier in black on the top half. A starling murmuration can be seen around the pier which carries on onto the back of the bench. The back has much darker colours, with a navy night sky behind a colourful Brighton Palace Pier and hanging moon. The pages are painted a teal colour, with the murmuration passing over the top of the bench.
