Reading at Stanford is simply Swan-derful!
Created by: Stanford Primary School
Location: St Augustines Centre
Stanford Primary School launches from September 2026. As part of the on-going collaboration between Stanford Infant and Junior Schools, we were delighted to jointly work on this exciting community arts project during the summer. The children designed feathers of peace that have been used to create our decoupage design. Our new school logo builds on the swan theme of our original logos. Our design also features the joy of tranquillity, living beside the sea and the Sussex Downs. We all love to read and our BookBench will be a great new venue to get lost in a book!

Accessing the sculpture
The sculpture will be located at the Augustine’s Centre, in the building to the left, where the café area is.
You can access the building through the garden (entrance on Stanford Avenue). There is a ramp to enter the building.
Public transport
Buses: the nearest bus-stop is Stanford Avenue, served by the 5B. You can also get the 5A or the 5 to Springfield Road. Both of these stops require going uphill and crossing roads to the entrance.
Trains: Local and national trains are available from London Road station. All platforms and trains are accessible with ramps and extra support available at request. There are also accessible ticket barriers. There is a step-free accessible route towards the sculpture but be mindful of steep hills and the occasional rough surface.
Bikes: The nearest Beryl Bay will be at the entrance to Preston Park.
You will be able to park your bike at Preston Park.
What to expect from the location
Noise Levels – 2/10.
St Augustine’s is a private event space and generally is quiet. There may be noise if an activity is going on, or if the café is particularly busy. As St Augustines is a converted church, the noise can echo.
Parking
The nearest parking spaces will be the park’s dedicated North (via Preston Drove) or South (junction of Preston Road and Preston Park Avenue) car parks.
- They are open every day 9am to 8pm. The maximum stay is 6 hours, with no return within 4 hours.
- From £1.70 for one hour, up to £8.40 for six hours.
There are also Blue Badge spaces available in these car parks. Alternatively, you can use a Blue Badge on single or double yellow lines for up to three hours as long as no loading restrictions are in force. You can also pay for free and for an unlimited time in Pay and Display bays.
Facilities
There are public toilets in St Augustines. These include an accessible toilet.
A changing places toilet is nearby in Preston Park, by the Rotunda Café. This is around an 850-metre distance away.
The toilets will be open 8am-4pm and Preston Park toilets are open from 10am -6pm. The changing place requires a RADAR key for access and includes adult sized wall mounted bench which is height adjustable, ceiling hoist and loop hoist, peninsular toilet, height adjustable washbasin, emergency alarm, privacy screen, accessible shower, colostomy shelf.
