Once Upon a Tide

“Once Upon A Tide” was inspired by our children’s love of the seaside and our frequent trips to the beach, where we enjoy picnics, sharing stories, and exploring the world around us. As a nursery, we are passionate about caring for our environment and encouraging the next generation to help keep our beaches and oceans clean.
The children designed and decorated the bench themselves, with staff only adding the black outlines to bring their ideas together. From the bright sea creatures to the waves and sandy shores, every part of the bench reflects their creativity, imagination, and connection to our local coastline. We hope it inspires others to appreciate the beauty of the beach and the many stories that can be found by the sea.

Accessibility
Accessing the sculpture
The sculpture will be located in the entrance to Cineworld. This is accessed by an accessible platform that has a smooth surface and available ramps.
It can be accessed by entering the car park from the Marina Way roundabout, where there are pedestrian crossings.
Public transport
Buses: 1X, 7, 21, 23, 47, 52, CSS are available from the Marina Cinema stop.
Trains: Local and national trains are available from Brighton station. All platforms and trains are accessible with ramps and extra support available at request. There are also accessible ticket barriers. It is over an hour pedestrianised journey from the station to the marina with restricted pedestrian access, so using a bus will be the best option.
Bikes: The nearest Beryl Bay will be Brighton Marina, located between McDonalds and the multi-storey car park.
There are multiple Sheffield racks across the marina, with some adjacent to the Beryl Bay.
What to expect from the location
Noise Levels – 3/10
The Marina can be a busy place at times; however, the traffic noise should be quieter than in the city centre. Be aware of pedestrians and cyclists in the area.
There are numerous cafes, bars, and restaurants in the area available for refreshments.
Parking
Brighton Marina Car Park. 230-metre distance away, around a 2-minute journey.
- Step-free access from Level 6 to the boardwalk, where you can access the sculpture via the ramps.
- Free parking for 4 hours.
- Disabled bays on the ground floor and level 6 East.
ASDA Car Park. 450-metre distance away, around a 6-minute journey.
- Step-free access via the Marina Way roundabout:
- Use the accessible zebra crossing along The Waterfront to the East. This will allow you to use the pedestrian access by ASDA garage to get to Brighton Marina Car Park.
- From here, go to level 6 and use the step-free pathway.
- Free parking for 2 hours.
Facilities
The nearest general public toilets are located inside Cineworld. There are also toilets on the Boardwalk. These are close to the lifts onto the upper level. Look for the level crossing, stay on the right as you look through the marina, toilets are hidden around the back in a small boardwalk arcade. These are male and female with disabled access on the lower level, Mermaid Walk, accessible by lifts. These will be open from 10am until 6pm.
The nearest fully equipped, registered changing place will be at The Shelter Hall. Please note that this a 4.9km distance away, so we recommend this to be accessed via private vehicle or bus.
