The sculpture is located adjacent to St Peters Church, on the flat, stoned surface by the green. There is a dropped kerb opposite Barnets that will allow you step-free access onto the pavement that leads to the sculpture.

Take the concrete path over the grass on your left towards the flat surface of the sculpture location.

On the other side of the green is Richmond Place, where there is a drop kerb and accessible crossing available near the fountain. There is also a path here leading towards the sculpture.

By Bus – The nearest routes that will stop by this sculpture will be the 3X, 5, 5A, 5B, 20, 21, 22, 24, 25, 26, 28, 29, 29A, 29B, 37, 37B, 46, 48, 49, 52, 78, 79, 270, 271 and 272 at the ‘St Peters Church’ stop.

By Train – If you’re arriving via train, the nearest station will be Brighton. There is a step-free accessible route via Trafalgar Street:

• At the bottom of Trafalgar Street, use the crossing opposite Barnets to access the sculpture.
• Please note that Trafalgar Street is on a relatively steep downwards slope towards the sculpture. Also be aware of the few metres of cobbles opposite the Prince Albert pub on your way down and the occasional rougher surface along some dropped kerbs.

Trains: Local and national trains are available from Brighton station. All platforms and trains are accessible with ramps and extra support available at request. There are also accessible ticket barriers.

Bikes: The nearest Beryl Bays will be located South of The Level, which is on the corner by the crossing next to The Recovery Hub, a short 190 metres distance away. Another is located at Richmond Place, a 170 metres distance South.

There are personal bike bays directly opposite Barnets where you can lock up your bike, an 80-metre distance from the sculpture.

The sculpture’s location is a very spacious, accessible, smooth-surfaced area, ideal for a wheelchair user. As it is surrounded by busy roads, expect traffic noise, including horns and sirens. The area itself is not normally crowded, although the surrounding roads/pavements are more likely to be.

    • Turn left onto Gloucester Place, where you can use the crossing to get across to St Peters Church.

Alternatively, you can use a Blue Badge on single or double yellow lines for up to three hours as long as no loading restrictions are in force. You can also pay for free and for an unlimited time in Pay and Display bays.

The nearest public toilets, with male, female and accessible facilities, are in The Level, behind the skatepark, in the Maclaren Pavilion. This is 350 metres away and around a 5-minute journey.

The nearest changing place will be in Brighton Station, available on the east end of the concourse, towards Pret a Manger. A RADAR key is required, or staff are available to help access this on request. This includes a height-adjustable changing bench, a ceiling hoist, a height-adjustable washbasin, and non-slip flooring. Please note that it is a relatively steep incline up towards the station via Trafalgar Street.

The front of this BookBench has a blended, dusky background, from orange at the bottom to purple and then blue. It is decorated by various leaves, such as palm leaves and fronds. These surround a selection of birds, such as a parrot, a seagull and a raven. There also hints at Brighton culture too, with the Duke of York’s Picture House stripy legs and a stick of Brighton Rock. On the back of the sculpture can be seen two creatures from Brighton’s merry-go-round – a bird and a horse. The silhouette of some more of the merry-go-round can be seen in the background as well as the silhouette of a flying bird. The pages are painted gold.
