Our bench celebrates the values we encourage every day at Hopscotch West Hove.
After noticing the children’s growing interest in superheroes, we used their enthusiasm to explore what it means to be a kind friend and a positive member of our community. Together, we talked about sharing, teamwork, friendship, kindness and keeping ourselves and others safe.
To bring these ideas to life, we created our own team of everyday heroes:

❤️ Captain Kindness
These characters have become a special part of nursery life. The children proudly talk about “being a Sharing Shark” when they share their toys, showing the kindness of Captain Kindness or working together like Teamwork Tiger to solve problems and support one another.
Our bench celebrates these shared values and reminds us that every child has the ability to make a positive difference. Through our Hopscotch West Hove Heroes, we are helping children discover that they can be everyday superheroes too.

Accessibility
Accessing the sculpture
The sculpture will be located in the entrance to Cineworld. This is accessed by an accessible platform that has a smooth surface and available ramps.
It can be accessed by entering the car park from the Marina Way roundabout, where there are pedestrian crossings.
Public transport
Buses: 1X, 7, 21, 23, 47, 52, CSS are available from the Marina Cinema stop.
Trains: Local and national trains are available from Brighton station. All platforms and trains are accessible with ramps and extra support available at request. There are also accessible ticket barriers. It is over an hour pedestrianised journey from the station to the marina with restricted pedestrian access, so using a bus will be the best option.
Bikes: The nearest Beryl Bay will be Brighton Marina, located between McDonalds and the multi-storey car park.
There are multiple Sheffield racks across the marina, with some adjacent to the Beryl Bay.
What to expect from the location
Noise Levels – 3/10
The Marina can be a busy place at times; however, the traffic noise should be quieter than in the city centre. Be aware of pedestrians and cyclists in the area.
There are numerous cafes, bars, and restaurants in the area available for refreshments.
Parking
Brighton Marina Car Park. 230-metre distance away, around a 2-minute journey.
- Step-free access from Level 6 to the boardwalk, where you can access the sculpture via the ramps.
- Free parking for 4 hours.
- Disabled bays on the ground floor and level 6 East.
ASDA Car Park. 450-metre distance away, around a 6-minute journey.
- Step-free access via the Marina Way roundabout:
- Use the accessible zebra crossing along The Waterfront to the East. This will allow you to use the pedestrian access by ASDA garage to get to Brighton Marina Car Park.
- From here, go to level 6 and use the step-free pathway.
- Free parking for 2 hours.

Facilities
The nearest general public toilets are located inside Cineworld. There are also toilets on the Boardwalk. These are close to the lifts onto the upper level. Look for the level crossing, stay on the right as you look through the marina, toilets are hidden around the back in a small boardwalk arcade. These are male and female with disabled access on the lower level, Mermaid Walk, accessible by lifts. These will be open from 10am until 6pm.
The nearest fully equipped, registered changing place will be at The Shelter Hall. Please note that this a 4.9km distance away, so we recommend this to be accessed via private vehicle or bus.
