Where Stories Meet the Sky

Inspired by the beautiful picture book, Ocean Meets Sky by The Fan Brothers, this bench celebrates the power of stories, dreams and imagination. Children from every year group at St Andrews CE Primary School submitted designs, with winning ideas combined into one shared vision. Groups of pupils then worked together to help bring the bench to life. Just as the book’s journey connects the ocean and the sky, our bench brings together creativity, collaboration and the wonderful stories that live in all of us.

Accessibility
Accessing the sculpture
This sculpture is located inside the Brighton & Hove Buses Travel Hub on North Street. There is step free access into the shop.
Public transport
Buses: The available routes are 1/1X, 2, 5, 5A, 5B, 7, 12, 12X, 13X, 14, 20, 21, 22, 24, 26, 27, 28, 29, 29a, 37, 37b, 46, 47, 48, 52, 77, 270, 700 that all stop at North Street.
Trains: Local and national trains are available from Brighton station. All platforms and trains are accessible with ramps and extra support available at request. There are also accessible ticket barriers.
There is a step-free accessible route via Queens Road, around a 800-metre distance and a 12-minute journey:
- Head down Queens Road before turning left onto North Street.
- There are accessible crossings on North Street.
Bikes: The nearest Beryl Bay will be outside Barclays Bank on North Street.
There are Sheffield racks on North Street for you to lock up your personal bike.
What to expect from the location
Noise Levels – 7/10.
North Street is near one of the busiest places in Brighton and Hove, although the shop itself will be relatively quiet. Please note that there will be some crowds as this is a hub for shopping and eating, as well as people waiting for buses opposite the sculpture. There will be nearby traffic noise on North Street, including sudden sirens and horns.
There are numerous bars, cafes, and restaurants nearby.
Parking
The Lanes Car Park 320 metres away, around a 5-minute journey.

The nearest Blue Badge on-street parking bays will be on King Place. There also a few disabled bays on Duke Street. Alternatively, you can use a Blue Badge on single or double yellow lines for up to three hours as long as no loading restrictions are in force.
Facilities
The nearest public toilets are within Pavilion Gardens. There are accessible toilets and baby changing facilities. The toilets are open 10am-6pm and are around a 350-metre distance away.
There is a changing place toilet in Churchill Square. This can be found between Clarks and Pandora and includes a height-adjustable adult changing bench, a ceiling hoist, a peninsular toilet, an accessible shower, and a height-adjustable washbasin. This can be opened by Churchill Square staff and is open from 8am until 6pm Monday to Saturday, with an early close of 5pm on a Sunday.
