Amaze seeks SEND youth work placement

Are you interested in youth work and working with young people? Do you have an additional need or disability that would make you a great role model for our young people?

Amaze is offering a paid and supported work experience placement in our Brighton Amazing Futures youth team.  If you are enthusiastic and keen to gain experience working in youth work and in an office environment, this is an opportunity to develop your skills and get work experience in a supportive, friendly team.

The role involves helping to run our service for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) aged 14 to 25 and also working at Brighton & Hove Museum and with Allsorts youth project, supporting LGBTQ+ young people.  You will spend 20 days working with Amaze, 4 days with Brighton & Hove Museum and 4 days with Allsorts.  This means that you get a wide range of experience in different settings.

  • 7 hours a week (usually Thursdays 12 – 7 pm, including one hour paid break, and four Fridays) for 6 months until end of March 2027
  • £13.57 per hour (based on living wage guidelines)

We are looking for someone aged 18 plus who understands special educational needs and disability (SEND) and the issues young people are facing today through their personal experience.  We will provide you with support and adapt the internship to your needs, but you do need to be able to travel to different locations in Brighton.

You will need to be confident to communicate with lots of different people, one to one and in groups. You will be working with young people with SEND who are facing challenges in their lives, so you need to be warm and non-judgemental. We need someone with basic computer skills. This means being able to use email and Microsoft Word.

You are welcome to apply if you currently come to our Amazing Futures groups, but if you were successful in getting the role you wouldn’t be able to come to groups as a participant because you will be working for us and need to keep professional boundaries.  You could go back to the groups once your placement ends.

Amaze will be offering training and support. This is an opportunity to get experience in youth work and build workplace skills such as teamwork and office administration.

At the moment, people from the global majority are an identified gap in our team so are encouraged to apply.

We are looking for people to start in mid-October 2026.
