Amaze to unveil ‘colouring’ BookBench as final preview ahead of The Story Trail
The Illustrator BookBench will be unveiled at an event at The Book Nook
Children, young people and adults will be able to make their own mark on The Story Trail this autumn by colouring in a special BookBench designed by children’s authors and illustrators.
The BookBench sculpture, which will be hosted at The Book Nook in Hove from Thursday 20th August, features artwork by Nila Aye, Sophy Henn, Steve Lenton, Guy Parker-Rees, Liz Pichon, Nick Sharratt, Adam Stower and Vicky Woodgate.
Visitors to The Book Nook can colour in the sculpture, which will be wiped clean daily. At the end of the trail, the illustrators will paint in their design. It will be displayed in colour at The Story Trail Farewell Weekend and then auctioned at The Story Trail auction.
The Story Trail takes place in Brighton & Hove between 12th September and 8th November. The trail will feature 30 large BookBench sculptures as well as 44 smaller BookBench sculptures. The Story Trail is organised by and raising money for Amaze.
This follows the unveiling of two designs by Ilona Drew and The Postman. All other designs will be revealed when The Story Trail goes live on 12th September.
Visitors will be able to record their visit to each sculpture on The Story Trail app and win exclusive rewards. They will also be able to purchase a sticker book from Amaze to follow the trail.

“We can’t wait for people to see the rest of the sculptures when they are revealed this autumn, which reflect the diversity of stories our city tells. It’s a great celebration of what we do at Amaze, creating supportive spaces where people can connect with others who share similar experiences.”
Guy Parker-Rees, who designed part of this sculpture as well as a large BookBench for The Story Trail added:
“I loved working on this BookBench! Brighton is such a hotbed of creativity for picture book art, it was a rare treat to work on a joint project with so many brilliant illustrators. Make sure to find your way to the Book Nook, bring along the next generation of aspiring young artists and get colouring!”
