planning for adulthood
Transition planning helps to support young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their families through the process of planning for adulthood. All young people with SEND should get support from school in preparing for adulthood but there should be an extra focus on this if they have an EHC plan or a Statement of SEN
Further education is education for young people between the ages of 16 and 19. It includes school sixth forms, sixth form colleges and FE colleges. Higher education is provided by universities and similar institutions that offer degrees and Higher National Diplomas (HNDs).
Most parent carers are used to claiming benefits like DLA to help meet some of the additional costs of caring for their disabled children. But as your child reaches 16, and when circumstances change – for example your child leaves education or begins to claim their own benefits – there can be a knock-on effect on your whole family's income.
