Where?

There are 13 Brighton and Hove City Council libraries – see here for details or call 01273 290800

What?

It’s free to be a library member and you can join at any age. All library members can borrow books for free (including digital collections), be supported to find information, use computers and access the internet and enjoy regular events and activities. Libraries offer a wide range of digital material, including eBooks, eAudio, comics, graphic novels, magazines and newspapers. Find out more here. If you don’t have a library card, you can register here.
Compass Card offer: There’s normally a charge for borrowing DVDs, audiobooks and music CDs, but Compass Card holders can borrow them for free. If your nearest library doesn’t have the item you’re looking for, you can make a reservation and have it sent to your nearest library for pick up (there’s no reservation fee for Compass Card holders). You can borrow up to four DVDs and four CDs a week if you’ve got a library membership card. Audiobooks, like printed books, are lent for up to three weeks at a time. Compass Card holders will need to be a member of the library service before they can take advantage of the offer and can join at any age and at any library free of charge.
Accessibility: All library buildings are accessible and have at least one height adjustable computer desk. All computers have the option of screen reading and magnification software. Contact the library before you visit if you need special equipment, or to discuss your needs in detail. Libraries can provide books in large print and eAudiobooks. There are accessible toilets at all libraries except Saltdean.

How?

Show your Compass Card to a member of library staff at the counter the first time you use the library. Once the library service has registered the Compass Card holder, they can check their items out with their library card and won’t be charged. If you renew the Compass Card, you’ll need to show the new Compass Card to library staff and the card holder details will be updated.
