Climb to the top of this 1000 year old Norman Castle for stunning panoramic views across Sussex. The adjoining Barbican House is home to the Museum of Sussex Archaeology and houses local collections from the Stone Age to medieval times. A mini-cinema tells the story of Lewes from prehistoric to Victorian times. There’s an audio described trail that’s free to download, a listening bench and sound installation in the Gun Garden, as well as family activity bags that are designed for families whose children have additional needs.
General provision: One carer is admitted free of charge for all visitors with special educational needs and disabilities. Combined admission tickets with Anne of Cleves House are available. Unless agreed in advance, under 16s need to be accompanied by an adult.
Compass Card offer: The Compass Card triggers the free carer offer.
Accessibility: Parking is available in Lewes town centre and there is one accessible toilet in the Education Resource Centre. Due to the historic nature of the castle and museum, access is limited to the ground floor.
