Amaze seeks Youth Workers

Amazing Futures are seeking Youth Workers for our Holiday Scheme and Bank Staff

  • This is a zero-hours contract. Hours will be fixed for holiday schemes but are otherwise on an ad hoc basis.
  • £14.77 – £15.81/hour, equivalent to £26,873 – £28,770 pro rata NJC Spinal Point 13-17, dependent on qualifications and experience.
  • The holiday entitlement for a zero hours contract will be paid at the statutory rate on a monthly basis. 

This is an exciting opportunity to work for a local charity that is passionate about supporting young people to thrive.  We are looking for experienced youth workers/support workers / PAs to:

  • Staff our school holiday schemes
  • Join our bank staff pool covering ad-hoc shifts, periods of sickness and annual leave

You will facilitate an inclusive environment where young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) aged 14-25 shape our sessions and participate in activities.  Responsibilities include:

  • Empowering young people to have a voice, to contribute to session planning and to plan for their futures
  • Helping to run group sessions, including setting up and packing down, attending briefings
  • Leading or supporting activities, encouraging participation and socialisation, building relationships
  • Providing 1:1 support to young people as necessary

Amazing Futures is the name of Amaze’s youth programme offering activities, social groups, information, and support, enabling young people to be more involved in their community and develop their life skills as they transition to adulthood. It’s a youth-led project, empowering young people to have a place where their voices are heard and valued, where they can be unapologetically themselves.

Our holiday schemes will be running 10am – 2pm (staff shifts 9.15am-2.45pm) on:

  • Easter: 2-4 April and 9-11 April
  • Half-term: 28-30 May
  • Summer: 30 July-1 Aug, 6-8 Aug, 13-15 Aug, 20-22 Aug

Other hours may vary.  Currently, our sessions typically run for 1.5-3 hours, Tues-Thurs, between 4pm and 9pm (including set up, pack up and debriefing).

Based at:

  • Holiday schemes: Portslade Village Centre, Courthope Close, Brighton and Hove
  • Brighton and Hove clubs: Community Base, Unitarian Church, St Richard’s
  • East Sussex: Leaf Hall and Willingdon Community Centre Eastbourne, Bexhill Community Centre and in Seaford

You will have experience of working with or taking care of young people, preferably with additional needs (aged 14-25). An understanding of SEND needs would be an advantage.  You might currently be a youth worker, a school TA, a PA for someone with disabilities, or a sibling and/or carer to a child/young person with additional needs. You will be passionate about providing an inclusive space for young people to have fun, participate in activities and grow in confidence.
