Housing options for your Young Person with SEND aged 16-25 (B&H and ESx)

Join the Parent Group and Befriending Service for this two hour Zoom workshop on looking at housing options for your young person.

Free Zoom workshop for parents of young people with SEND aged 16-25 in Brighton & Hove and East Sussex, looking at housing options for your young person.

Speakers:

Sally, from the SENDIASS team at Amaze, will talk you through all the options available when looking at housing options for your young person. These will include supported living, shared lives, personal budgets and residential care. She will also talk briefly about what to expect as you make decisions with your young person about where they will live as an adult.

Saffron Romero, from East Sussex Shared Lives, will talk about what Shared Lives can offer and the benefits of this option. She will also share information on eligibility criteria and the process you will go through if this is the right option for your young person.

Christine, from Together Matters, will give you ideas to plan ahead for the time when your young person may move home. This will include useful information to gather before focusing on housing choices, what options might be right for your relative and you all as a family, as well as ideas to help with having conversations about moving home. She will talk about how ‘Thinking Ahead: a planning guide for families’, ‘I’m Thinking Ahead’ and ‘Shaping My Future: a guide for people with physical disabilities’ can give structure and tools to families (free to download ahead of the workshop at https://www.togethermatters.org.uk/resources-and-information).

Kelly MacDonald is a parent carer, and volunteer befriender, from Brighton & Hove who will be sharing her experiences from managing her daughter’s personal budget at home to transitioning to supported living. Kelly will give an honest reflection on the process, as well as the journey for her as a parent carer, and talk about what you can expect as your travel your own journey into supported living.
