East Sussex Parent Carer Forum (ESPCF) has been working hard to stay in touch with parent carers and gather and represent the issues affecting families during this difficult time.
Our new Engagement Co-ordinator Denise Banks is contacting all ESPCF members by telephone and there is a dedicated form on our website for you to feedback your COVID-19 concerns. https://www.espcf.org.uk/coronavirus-covid-19-useful-resources-for-families. Please let us know how you are coping and what else you need. You may also wish to complete the SENDIASS survey asking parent carers some specific questions around education support and access to services – all responses may be entered into a prize draw to win an activities hamper or shopping vouchers. Responses can be anonymous if preferred and are needed by midday on Friday 24 April, in order to affect change quickly.
ESPCF have virtual meetings with East Sussex County Council’s iSEND team every week to discuss concerns and seek solutions, such as the support available to families from local schools during lockdown.
With Amaze, we have also liaised with Sussex Police who are asking all officers to ensure that guidance is followed around people with additional health conditions, LD, autism etc when accessing the outdoors – see the attached letter. Letter to Sussex Police from Amaze & Partners 9.4.20
As a result of feedback we have already received from parents, we have created a directory listing different learning activities and resources which you might find useful at this time. It is clearly labelled according to different needs, for example challenging behaviour, sensory issues, communication, and more. https://www.espcf.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/ESPCF-Activity-and-Learning-Resources-Directory.pdf
Becky Jones, our new Communications and Administrative Assistant, is now in post and along with Denise, is receiving your queries and comments, please keep them coming email@example.com or 07949 430316
Lots of our other strategic or service development work with partners has understandably been on hold in recent weeks. We hope to get back to these issues soon.
Jo Nye, Interim Co-Chair, ESPCF
