Volunteers lead the way at Amaze

As it’s Volunteers Week, Amaze would like to highlight the work of its inspirational Face 2 Face team.

With 26 members, the Face 2 Face team offers emotional support to parents, particularly around the time of diagnosis. All of our volunteers (and our coordinator) are parents of children with SEND and the power of the service is about having somebody there who understands the ‘journey’ and is there with you through those often painful early days. Befrienders also work closely with other projects within Amaze and can help to navigate the system with you.

Face 2 Face also offers several groups, all led by our volunteers. The PRESENS group runs once a week in term time and is for under 5s with additional needs. One of our team Sheila Cullen supports this every week. The popular Saturday autism group for under 7s and their families runs once a month and was set up  and is run by Amanda Stockford, who recognised a gap through her own journey with her son Billy. Our flourishing Dads’ Group set up by Reza Ataie and now run by Darren Walker meets monthly for a pint in The Stoneham Pub. Our newest group, the monthly drop-in Breakfast Club, is led by befrienders Val Cavellucci and Louise Howe.

Our team are fully involved in the delivery of the service and our two fashion shows have been led by Rosalind Howard with support from several of our other volunteers and Max Pallister co-ran our training last year.
