Local response to government’s proposed reopening of schools
We know you will all be anxious and wanting to know more detail following the government’s recent announcements about the potential reopening of schools but we know all schools are planning how it can happen in safe and fair way.
In Brighton & Hove, Amaze understands that Jo Lyons (Brighton & Hove Assistant Director, Families, Children and Learning) is meeting with head teachers at various time slots on Friday to get a city-wide view on where these plans have got to and Brighton & Hove Parent Carers’ Council (PaCC) is asking for an update from this.
East Sussex County Council have shared some initial thinking with East Sussex Parent Carer Forum (ESPCF) who will have the opportunity to give their input going forwards. Amaze and the parent carer forums are asking all schools and colleges to take on board the recommendations from our recent survey into parent carers’ experiences of Covid-19 lockdown – you can read the report on the survey here: https://amazesussex.org.uk/amaze_news/brighton-hove-parent-carers-experiences-of-covid-19/
The survey recommends careful planning for the various needs of the SEND community of pupils to ensure they are supported to return alongside others, if that is what they wish, or are provided with differentiated learning resources if continuing at home. We will provide a fuller update next week when we should know more.
