Looking Forward launches in Brighton & Hove and East Sussex

Looking Forward is a new programme from Amaze for young people with special educational needs and disabilities aged 14-25 who are thinking about options for education, employment and training. We are based in Brighton & Hove and Eastbourne.

As part of the preparation for adulthood young people need to think about their next steps in education, employment and training. As 49% of people with disabilities are not in employment, it is vital that young people with SEND get the support they need to figure out the best path for them. The project supports young people to develop their resilience so they feel more confident in moving toward their goals and the challenges that go with this.

Looking Forward offers a variety of options for young people to choose from:

  •  one to one action planning to encourage aspirations and look at ways to move towards their goals
  • training sessions on skills needed to find a job, college, or training placement e.g. CV writing and interview techniques
  • Workshops to look at choices and next steps (which parent carers can also attend)

Young people can choose to attend the sessions that interest them and we will support them to identify what they want to do, and how they’ll get there. We don’t organise their placements but we will help young people to identify the options available to them and choose the route they want to take.

Looking Forward is available in Brighton and Eastbourne. Any young person aged 14-18 with SEND is eligible. Young people aged 19+ can also attend if they have an EHC plan. It’s a rolling programme so young people can access activities to suit their needs.

One for the diary: There will be an opportunity for young people and their parent carers to talk to some education and training providers and employers at the What’s Out There event on Thursday July 18th at BHASVIC in Brighton & Hove.
