New letter for outdoor exercise during lockdown – for families of children with SEND

Amaze has worked quickly and closely with the local parent carer forums and West Sussex charity Reaching Families to create a letter for children and young people with SEND or their parent carers to use when exercising outdoors during the new lockdown.

The letter sets out the reasons why a family with a child or young person with SEND may be outside more often or travelling further afield than other families. It also refers to the government guidance that allows additional flexibility to families of children with SEND (and children under 5) in terms of exercise and outdoor gathering limits. You can read more about this guidance on our Coronavirus – Social care and safety page.

Parents of children with a Compass Card in Brighton & Hove have also been sent a letter (authorised with the council’s logo) that identifies them as an essential carer eligible for priority at supermarkets and collecting medicines. If your child has significant additional needs (with an EHC plan or getting DLA/PIP) and you do not currently have a Compass Card, you can register for a Compass Card here.
