Foundations For Our Future – improving the emotional health and wellbeing of children and young people in Sussex
Children and young people, as well as their families and carers, have fed into an independent local review to improve emotional health and wellbeing services. This input included feedback received through Brighton & Hove PaCC’s mental health report (May 2019).
As a result of the review, a total of 20 recommendations for change have now been put forward to, and accepted by, the NHS and local authorities in Sussex who commissioned the work.
Foundations for Our Future responds to feedback that the system of support is not working as well as it should, and that it is not always clear what is available or how to access it. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, work to implement the recommendations was not able to begin as soon as planned. However the report has now been endorsed through all partners formal governance routes and work is moving forward.

The NHS and local authorities in Sussex would like to thank everyone who took part in the review, in particular the PaCC community through their report into families’ experiences of local services. They say: “The needs of children, young people and their families and carers are at the centre of emotional health and wellbeing interventions and services in Sussex, and we are committed to ensuring they are responsive and focus on building resilience. We have listened, we have learned and we will now take action to make sure real improvements are made for children, young people and families in the local communities we serve.”
