Face 2 Face support over the summer, new group and Family Fun event

Here’s what’s coming up with our Face 2 Face peer support project in Brighton & Hove and East Sussex, including support over the summer, a new group in Brighton & Hove for parent carers of 16 to 25 year olds, and our upcoming Family Fun event:

Brighton & Hove

We’re putting our popular Breakfast Club on pause until September, but don’t worry, our active WhatsApp groups will continue over the summer. Our current WhatsApp groups are:

  • Breakfast Club
  • autism group
  • 16-25 group
  • multi-cultural group (run in conjunction with the Hangleton & Knoll Project)

Email louise@amazesussex.org.uk if you’d like to join any of these groups.

From September, we’ll be starting a new in-person group for parent carers of young people aged 16 to 25. We’d love to hear from you if you have thoughts on how we could make these sessions useful to you: email Louise or message the 16-25 WhatsApp group.

East Sussex

Our Cuppa, Cake and Chat sessions in Hastings and Eastbourne will be on pause over the summer, but our friendly WhatsApp groups will continue to be there for you to share experiences and signposting with other parent carers. Depending on the age of your child or young person there are a few different groups:

  • Brunch Club
  • Escape Club
  • Kids Squad
  • 16-25 group

If you’re not a member of any of our WhatsApp groups just drop Kathy Johnson an email at kathy@amazesussex.org.uk and she will add you to the most appropriate group.

The first group back after the summer will be a joint Hastings and Eastbourne group, taking place on Tuesday 13 September. This group will be a wellbeing session, held at the YMCA in Eastbourne and will last a little longer than our usual Cuppa, Cake and Chat groups.

Family Fun event

Thanks to some funding from Mencap, we’re hosting a fun event for the whole family at Extratime in Portslade on Wednesday 27th July from 10am to 2pm. Pop it in your diary and keep an eye on our social media for more info soon! Open to all Face 2 Face families from East Sussex and Brighton & Hove.

Volunteer

Do you feel you have the knowledge and experience to support other parents as one of our Face 2 Face befrienders?

Our volunteer befrienders offer emotional support to parents of children with additional needs around the time of their child’s diagnosis or when facing new challenges.

We offer free training to help you use your experience and knowledge as a parent carer to help others. Our training programme includes:

  • building listening skills
  • qualities of a befriender
  • establishing boundaries
  • safeguarding
  • the parent journey
