Amaze burglary on Friday 18 October
As you may have heard, thieves broke down our door on Friday night, and spent some time smashing the locks to every locked filing cabinet and drawer, walking away with hundreds of pounds of laptops and camera equipment. A small amount of petty cash was also taken.
It is thought someone somehow gained access to the shared Community Base building on Queens Rd, Brighton, and then waited for all staff to leave before breaking into the Amaze office.
Amaze CEO Rachel Travers says: “Whilst we are very sympathetic to the desperate situation some people find themselves in, it is really shocking that anyone would think to steal from our small charity which works to support some of city’s most vulnerable children. Thankfully we didn’t have much equipment worth stealing, but at Amaze we always struggle to make ends meet, and fully fund our services, so every penny counts.”
“The burglars even went through our collection buckets and tins looking for money, but we had thankfully just banked this all following our successful ‘Big Cheer for Amaze’ fundraiser at the Komedia on Thursday night.’
If you have any information please contact Sussex Police, or if you would like to help Amaze replace these items – you can donate to Amaze at www.justgiving.com/amaze/donate or contact email@example.com
Update on burglary
Your messages of support and concern about our burglary on Friday have been pouring in. If you’d like to hear more about it, you can listen to our CEO, Rachel Travers, talking to Neil Pringle on BBC Sussex Breakfast this morning. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p07pp5rf. Rachel is on about 1.51 minutes into the recording.
We want to reassure families that all the personal data we hold about them and their child(ren) is stored very securely and remotely on a database that requires two passwords to access. The laptop that has been taken was also password protected so we are very confident that all their details are safe.
You have also if we are insured and yes we are but sadly our premium will require us to pay an excess before we can claim for any losses.
Many of you have kindly asked if you can make a donation to help cover our losses. Thank you. You can do so via www.justgiving.com/amaze/donate
